After Lewis & Co. parlayed with and earned the trust of the Shoshone people of Lemhi Valley near present-day Salmon, ID they weighed their options. True, they have now reached Pacific-bound waters, but were told that the river downstream is narrow rapids cutting through a canyon, impassable by water or land. For a few days they explored this canyon, arriving at the same conclusion.
The first photo is the Tower Creek "Pirimids" where Lewis & Co. camped on August 31, 1805. Today there is a primitive BLM campground there. But unlike in 1805, you now have to pay to camp. I decided to keep going and set up tent on another BLM site downstream that was free.
