On August 17, 1805, after crossing the Continental Divide at Lemhi Pass, a 17-year-old Agaidika Shoshone returned to her homeland. Five years prior she was kidnapped during a battle and then sold into marriage. Her name was Sacagewea, and she was accompanying the Corps of Discovery on their journey to the Pacific. She died aged around 25; in Salmon, Idaho, named after her tribe, a visitor center honors her and her people's way of life.
